Online Case Study Competition: “BRICS-Emerging Giants”

Background

The Online Case Study Competition is primarily motivated by the international economics and business strategies, and specifically devised and complied for emerging markets, like BRICS- Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The objectives for this competition include: a) establishing an understanding of case method as a pedagogical tool among teaching community; b) developing an appreciation of the skills needed for leading case development; c) judging capabilities in the use of cases in international management circle; and d) building quality oriented case resources.

Prizes

The author(s) of the winning case will receive a single prize of US$1,000, along with a certificate.

Eligibility

The authors

Case authors may from academia, policy circle and business field. Senior students and research assistants are encouraged if they are part of an author team led by a faculty or professional member. Cases can be written by one or more authors. Teams of authors may be from different institutions worldwide but the copyright owner must be stated on the submission form.

The case

The case may be compiled from field research, published sources or generalized experience. Authors may submit a single case or a case series. The case, or case series, must be a maximum of 3,000 words, excluding exhibits and annexes. Each submission may be accompanied by some necessary research/teaching notes. The last date of submission is 31th December 2012.

Recognition

The competition winners will be announced with a press release by March 31, 2013 on official website www.tnc-online.net. The top ten cases will be published in the June issue of TNCR-Transnational Corporation Review.

Judging

The cases will be judged anonymously. Any attempt to contact or influence the judges will result in disqualification. No individual feedback on the cases will be given.

Judging Criteria

The case accounts for 70 percent of the overall weighting and the research/teaching notes 30 percent.

Essentials in a Case

  • be topical and relevant to current management education issues
  • be engaging in order to deliver an interesting learning experience
  • support the research/ teaching objectives and theoretical concepts stated in the note (this also applies to exhibits, annexes and supplementary items)

  • analysis
  • additional readings or references
  • feedback
